Chapter 13: Harbinger

Silver let out a heavy sigh as he swung his blade to his side, flicking off a thick clump of dark blood onto the ground. His gaze fell to the lifeless corpse of Zenroh before him, the same dark blood rushing out of the gaping hole in his chest. Silvers eyes shut as he took in a deep breath, feeling wave upon wave of energy flowing through his body.

The boy turned on his heel, opening his hand wide. The black sword shivered and dissipated into streams of black flames, then retreated to his wrist, forming a segmented black wristlet. Silver clamped his hand tightly, cringing slightly as a surge of energy jolted up his arm. The prick of pain caused him to let out a short groan before opening his eyes.

As he felt the new power begin to balance out in his body, he directed himself to Morokah's weakened body. When Morokah felt Silvers now stronger aura, he slowly opened his eyes to glance at his son. His eyes, although still gleaming gold, appeared weak and visibly old, but the tug at his cheek showed his pained smile.

"You've done it, Silver… I'm proud…" Morokah wheezed out. Silver smiled back, then knelt down before him.

"You need help. You're badly hurt…" He spoke in a stern, yet soft tone, his eyes trailing down to the large gash in Morokah's side. He got a weak scoff in response.

"They'll be here, don't worry. You have much to learn about our auras, son, but now's not the time to…" Morokah was cut off by his own heavy coughing. As he stopped his short fit, a pair of large green dragons touched down behind Morokah. They both looked to Silver, then bowed their heads low, then proceeded to lift him onto their backs, striding off as quickly as they could without dropping Morokah.

Silver watched the two large dragons carry off his father back through the kingdom gates, feeling relieved that he was in good hands, and would be nursed back to full health. With out last sigh, he turned to face away from the kingdom and out towards the open wasteland that appeared to go on forever. Things seemed peaceful now… yet there was something off, and Silver couldn't quite place it. Something seemed overlooked.

His pondering was answered as his eyes fell upon a dark figure far into the wasteland. As soon as he got a good look at the figure, he felt a powerful aura cause shivers to climb up his spine.

The cloaked figure stood tall, his long cloak waving in the idle wind, showing off its ragged and torn ends. The figure's head was shaded by his hood, but Silver could make out a toothy grin.

Silver quickly extended his hand, focusing the black flames back to his palm, solidifying them into his blade again. As he did so, the figure slowly rose its arm to the sky. Silver could make out streams of dark purple and black energy spiraling from the ground in a circle into the figure's palm, morphing together into a growing orb. Swiftly, Silver began sprinting towards the figure, readying his sword for anything. From what he could tell, this must be Siehr, the mage who broke through the layers of worlds to find him, caused the death of his mother and forced this curse upon him. Finally he decided to rear his ugly head after his pawn had been defeated.

When Silver started running, Siehr threw his hand down, sending the orb downward into the ground. Seconds later, the ground started to shake and began splitting apart. Silver stopped running, unable to keep his footing under the quaking ground. Chunks of the ground began to fall downward, and a dark void could be seen under the layer of cloud-billowing rock. This must've been the spell Siehr had used on the island Silver had been living on before this all happened. He was trying to absorb the entire dragon kingdom now.

At this point, the ground had begun to segment and fall in large chunks, heading towards a spiraling vortex far below. Silver clung on as the chunk he had been standing on fell loose and began to plummet. He quickly kicked off of the chunk of rock, extending his dragonic wings for greater lift. He leapt from chunk to chunk, trying to get closer to Siehr as fast as he could, but the vortex only seemed to be pulling in the kingdom faster and faster.

Silver kept leaping, but shot a glare at Siehr, who simply cackled back.

"It's foolish to resist, boy! I'm going to take this world down and become more powerful than that fool Zenroh could have ever hoped!"

Silver slammed his wings down as he kicked off, soaring upward quickly. "I'll never let you succeed, Siehr!" Silver's eyes widened as a chunk of rock fell towards him. He swung his sword heavily, parting the rock down the middle.

Silver was met by a large mass of pale orange plating and a set of beady black eyes. He ducked as Gyzeronia swung his thick claw at the boy. Silver slid passed the scorpion-hybrid along the large rock chunk they both stood on, pumping his wings once to lift off the ground as Gyzeronia spun around, brandishing his open claw. The beast fired a burst of red energy, only to miss as Silver leapt over him, bringing his heel down on his head heavily. Gyzeronia stumbled forward as Silver slid onto the platform, readying his sword again. The beast whirled around and charged, his open claw ready for another blast. Silver charged as well, his sword at the ready by his side. When Gyzeronia fired, Silver side-stepped, then swung his sword horizontally at his claw. He was rewarded with a high-pitched screech and a fountain of blood as Gyzeronia's upper claw was cut clean off. Silver quickly spun on his heel, swinging his sword down on the beast's knee, digging in and forcing him to the ground. With one more clean slash, Silver cut Gyzeronia open from hip to shoulder, blood and dark purple plumes of energy erupting outward.

A gleaming light caught Silver's attention as he looked up, only to be hit by a painful blast of lightning, knocking him off his feet and closer to the vortex.

His whole body cringed as he slammed against another chunk of rock. He was now even farther from Siehr, and injured. He felt his energy begin to course through his body faster, now crawling out to his wings, making them twitch with the sensation of power. Silver knew he had to get to Sierh much faster than he was, but he didn't know how. He needed a boost. He needed to kick off stronger.

His eyes shot open as he got an idea. Quickly, he jumped to his feet, extending his wings out wide and focusing his energy to the tip of his wings and the bottom of his feet. He locked eyes with Siehr and kicked off.

The wind nearly deafened him as dark energy erupted under his feet, and now kept him propelled by constantly erupting from the edge of his wings, leaving a short trail of thick energy behind him. The chunks of rock zipped by him as he rapidly neared Siehr, who had quickly lost his cocky grin and was now throwing volleys of different elemental attacks at the approaching threat.

Silver rolled to avoid the attacks, barely doing so as the intense speed hindered his agility. However, he was nearing his foe, and he knew the time was near to strike. He gripped his sword as he could see the whites in Siehr's eyes. Siehr charged a large ball of lightning as Silver got within ten feet of him.

In one quick move, Silver disengaged his thrust and rotated to his side, avoiding the blast of lightning as he swung his sword from his hip and though his foe's torso.

A blinding light enveloped the kingdom and Siehr could be heard making his last howls of pain.

When the light faded, Siehr's severed body lay limp on the ground-- the still ground. Siehr's spell had stopped. His aura was completely gone, and the damage he had done seemed as if it had never happened.

Silver's sword reverted back to its wristlet shape as his wings retracted and dissipated. He couldn't sense anything else beyond what was emanating from the kingdom. The storm was over, and the war was won.

Morokah slowly eased himself out of the enormous bed the doctors had put him in to rest. His wounds were pretty much healed now, aside from the soon-to-be scar on his side.

A blue dragon eyed him and bowed his head low. Morokah gave him a silent, but solemn nod, then looked out towards the door, then back to the blue dragon. He received a nod, and the black dragon nudged the door open, trotting out towards the nearby balcony.

There stood Silver, adorning a set of black and grey garments, gleaming in the eternal sunset. The boy looked back over his shoulder at his father, then back out towards the skyline.

Morokah walked to his side, then sat on his haunches, looking out towards the skyline as well.

It was a long time before Morokah spoke. "You know, with Siehr's power gone, your island is probably back to normal. I can send you back, and you can resume your life, Silver." The two looked at each other, Silver's eyes looking distant and contemplative. "You are my son, and this kingdom's prince, but you had your own life before this. It'd be… wrong of me to take you from that."

Silver looked back towards the sunset and sighed. "I… know what you're saying… but at this point, I know I have a duty to stay here and be a prince here with you. It's my destiny, after all." Silver looked back towards Morokah, and the look of pride and confidence in his eyes made the larger dragon grin wide.

"Well, I guess now's when I tell you what a prince does before he becomes king." Morokah chuckled, making Silver quirk a brow. "I told you we looked over Earth. Before a true-royal dragon becomes a king, he must protect the world he is destined to watch over hands-on. That means for a few years, you'll be on Earth, helping balance out against the demons who leak through, and delegate with the angels who enter that world."

Silver looked down for a second, processing his task and imaging all of this. "It's my duty, so obviously the answer is yes."

Morokah chuckled again. "It wasn't a question, son." He was met with a huff from Silver. "But before we do that, the final part of your birth-right must be done." The large dragon faced his son and knelt on one foreleg. "On the honor and legacy of the Dragon Kingdom, after succeeding in your tests and birth-right, I grant you your royal name. Your birth name being Silver, your powers of darkness deeming your middle name "Anei" and by royalty your last name "Ryuu", both deemed by the Earth-parallel of land we exist with. Rise, Silver Anei Ryuu, the new prince of the Dragon Kingdom."

--- End of Book 1 ---
This is the eleventh chapter of the first book following Silver, both the namesake of my username and my first original character.

I originally wrote this story when I was 10, and haven't stopped following up on it. When I got near the end of book three, I decided to revamp and post The Fallen Island, the original book in the series.

Enjoy! Be sure to comment and review it as you see fit :meow:

This is the final chapter of "The Fallen Island". Book 2 will be posted later
